It’s funny how my car always seems to need extra parts around the time my mechanic needs to make a boat payment… just kidding guys.

Well, now the writers guild is on strike. As an author I should be sympathetic to their plight but I’ve honestly got mixed feelings about it.My first reaction was “maybe while those who get paid for writing the drivel that we see and hear on the tube are out on the picket line someone will realise that there are other forms of entertainment and I don’t mean video games that do not require sitting in front of a tube or a box or even a flat panel display…

Who knows… families might find out what it’s like to talk to each other again. Maybe they’ll go out and ride a bicycle or go for a walk or even ride or walk to their local library or bookstore and pick up a book to read.

On the other hand…Authors work hard at their craft and they like being appreciated for what they produce even though most don’t get rich from it. If they’re really lucky they are able to pay the bills and buy the groceries without commuting 3 hours a day to work at a full-time job… and then try to squeeze family time and working at their craft into the scant few hours left in the day.

So while the screenwriters guild haggles over DVD residuals, do yourself a favour.Go visit a bookstore or a library and pick up a book by someone who isn’t a television or motion picture star.

Leopard is out of the box at last… and all I’ve read is the griping about things that don’t work the same way as they used to… or this or that is broken… or that their 3rd party software doesn’t work. Leopard is the greatest yet of Apple’s OS-X… and yes, there are some bugs and third party problems and yes… Apple could have gotten a pre-release of the so-called “Gold-Master” to their developer community at bit ahead of the release date… … but these gripes come from the very same people who stood in line for hours to get a copy so they could be the first to install it on their Mac’s. …and instead of checking with their 3rd party vendors for availability dates and planning their upgrades so that they could roll back to the previous version, they all hit “UPGRADE” and sat back.In military maintenance parlance, this would be referred to as Operator Error. Personally, I think that when the animal is smarter and better behaved than the human it’s called a “Stupid Human Trick.”   apple.jpg

It’s fall, which means that the yard is full of leaves and it’s time to get the new habitat organised.  Why is it that you can’t really love a house until you make it your own? Like any ‘new’ abode, this one needs some personal touches… like certain rooms that need to be remodelled, new entry way doors, new kitchen cabinets, new carpets, etc…  Along with re-settling comes the joy of unpacking and organising ones belongings and wondering “what the heck is this for?” and “why did I drag this ‘thing’ along?” It also means it’s time to catalogue the library. Thankfully I use Books 3.0 which makes the effort nearly painless. Now, where did I put the can opener?
